Asthma & You

An asthma attack can be frustrating at best and can be scary when one really catches you off-guard. But you don’t have to spend life waiting on the edge of your seat. If you or a loved one has asthma, we’ve gathered some helpful information to help you thrive.

What is asthma?

According to the EPA, asthma is a chronic respiratory disease affecting over 25 million Americans. Characterized by difficulty breathing, chest tightness, coughing, and/or wheezing, asthma attacks are no walk in the park. However, with the right tools and know-how, the condition can be fully compatible with a happy and active lifestyle.

What triggers asthma?

Instances that may trigger an asthma attack, according to the EPA, include:

Secondhand smoke: From cigarettes, wildfires, or kitchen fumes

Dust mites: Found in upholstery, pillows, and bed covers

Mold: Releases spores into the air

Pets: From proteins in pet dander, fur, and saliva

Nitrogen dioxide: From appliances that run on gas, kerosene, or wood

Steps You Can Take

With Americans spending up to 90% of their days inside, having a clean home and circulated indoor air is incredibly important. Here are some simple but effective steps you can take to make your lifestyle support your wellness.

Seek Healthcare: The first step will always be to receive an official diagnosis from your doctor. Your doctor will help you create a personalized game plan, as well as prescribe you an inhaler and/or any medications you may need.

Air Purifiers: Make sure your home’s air supply is as clean as possible. Air purifiers using three layers of filtration can help remove triggering airborne contaminants such as mold spores, pet dander, and smoke, as well as dust, pollen, and VOCs (volatile organic compounds).

Protect Your Bedding: Dust mites love to burrow in comforters, pillows, and mattresses. Munching on your dead skin cells is like fine dining to them. Investing in pillow and mattress protectors, as well as hypoallergenic bedding, will help keep these pests at bay.

Cleaning Routine: Creating a routine you can stick to is a game-changer. The trick is to not attempt everything in one day, but to assign chores to different days of the week. Our Cleaning eBook is a great and easy-to-follow resource that covers all the basics.

Don’t let asthma be a backseat driver in your life. You’ve got everything you need to live each day with confidence and peace of mind.
