California Clean Air Day

Too often, important events slip past us, like birthdays and anniversaries. But this year, we want to help you remember one that reminds us to be mindful of our environment and conscious of the air we breathe: California Clean Air Day.
What Is California Clean Air Day?
On October 2nd, California Clean Air Day encourages individuals, organizations, and students to join the fight against declining air quality. According to the American Lung Association, 6 out of the 10 most-polluted U.S. cities are in California.
So, what’s poisoning our sunny blue skies?
For those of you who have ever driven on one of California’s eight-lane highways, it may not surprise you that transportation accounts for 40% of the state’s greenhouse gas emissions, followed by the industrial sector, which contributes another 20% of the grim picture.
The California Clean Air Day organization invites people to make a personal pledge to protect our air quality and the people who breathe it in.
Taking the pledge is easy:
- Visit www.cleanairday.org
- Select your category: Individuals, Organizations, or Students
- Select your pledge actions from 3 categories of ideas: Easy Actions, Small Investments, Plan Ahead
- Let them know who you are and click “I Commit to Clear the Air”
Whether you want to limit your electricity usage, drive less, carpool more, or plant a garden, even the smallest actions can make a big difference.
Daily Steps You Can Take
Here are a few ways to protect yourself and your family from poor air quality.
Monitor Air Quality
Use your phone’s weather app or airnow.gov to check your local air quality. If it’s bad, consider an indoor air purification device like the Vital 200S. Our fan-favorite air purifier not only purifies air with 3-stage filtration but provides real-time indoor air quality updates for your peace of mind.
Wear an N-95 Mask
This mask helps protect you from breathing in pollution.
Don’t Let Pollution Inside
If outdoor air quality’s poor, stay inside as much as possible with your doors and windows closed. You can circulate indoor air with an HVAC system or air purifier.
Clean Air for Everyone
Together, we can make change happen. Share the word about California Clean Air Day with your friends and let’s help protect our air quality one step at a time!
