Keep Your Winter Symptoms to a Minimum

  • 1 min read

Get Some Rest

A full 8 hours of sleep is especially important during the winter months. Without proper rest, your immune system deteriorates, causing one symptom to lead to another. If you are struggling with a cough or congestion, it can be difficult to fall asleep at night. Thankfully, running a humidifier when it’s time for bed can help clear stuffy nasal passages and ease dry, irritating coughs , so you can have an easier time falling asleep. Many Levoit humidifiers can double as aromatherapy diffusers, allowing you to add essential oils to this mist so you can enjoy relaxing scents like lavender or chamomile. If you use these aromas regularly, your brain will start to associate them with bedtime, which will hopefully help you drift off to sleep more quickly.

Soothe Your Sore Throat

When you’re feeling under the weather, it can be difficult to focus on anything else. Sore throats are especially distracting. Breathing in cold, dry air on a daily basis irritates your throat. Your home should be an escape from these conditions, but running the heater isn’t enough. A humidifier injects moisture back into your atmosphere, relieving your dry, sore throat and making you more comfortable in general. While you’re at it, don’t forget to treat yourself to something nice. A cup of tea with honey at night will help you get plenty of fluids and keep your throat feeling healthy.

Keep Allergies in Check

Winter might not be allergy season, but that doesn’t mean sneezing, itchy eyes, and runny noses take a vacation. More time spent inside means more exposure to indoor allergens like dust mites and mold, not to mention fur and pet dander. Your allergy symptoms can flare up considerably, but a humidifier can give you a break from the discomfort by keeping nasal passages clear. If you also have an air purifier, we recommend running it regularly to limit your exposure to indoor allergens.

Relieve Dry Skin

During the winter, it’s easy to feel uncomfortable in your own skin. While less noticeable than the other symptoms we mentioned above, dry skin can still keep you feeling out of sorts. Hydrating your air is important for long-term skincare and it can make a bigger difference during this season, especially if you have conditions like dermatitis. Finding the right humidity level for you will go a long way in helping you feel like your normal self, no matter what the conditions outside are like.

If you are shopping around for a new humidifier this holiday season, look for one with a warm mist setting. While cool mist humidifiers provide many of the same benefits, warm mist is naturally more enjoyable when the weather is cold. It can also humidify your room more quickly. We hope these tips will help you get the most enjoyment out of this winter and keep you healthy throughout the year ahead.
