Easy Ways to Keep Dust Out of Your Home

  • 1 min read

There’s nothing more stressful than rushing to clean before company arrives. But all the hustle and bustle of fluffing pillows and putting away laundry can sometimes stir up dust that settles in all your home's nooks and crannies, making it hard to feel like your cleaning duties are complete.

But what is dust, and how do you keep it out of your home? To make your next pre-party experience a little less daunting, we’ve got a few ways that can help you keep your home squeaky clean.

What is dust?

Dust can come from several different sources. Those clumps in the corners of the room and the pesky layer on the floor can contain a number of different types of particles, including dead skin cells, hair, clothing fibers, soil, and even microscopic bits of plastic.

But what makes dust more dangerous than pesky is that those particles can absorb dangerous chemical contaminants over time. As you move about your home, fluffing pillows and putting away laundry, you stir up dust, resuspending it in the air and circulating it throughout your home again and again.

How do I keep dust out of my home?

While it may not be possible to keep your home permanently dust-free, there are many steps you can take to limit the amount of dust in your home.

Set a weekly washing routine

Skin cells and stray hair can cling to the fibers of towels, sheets, and pillowcases that you use every day. Washing your linens weekly can help prevent dust mites from gathering by removing particles as well as allergens. And as an added plus, you’ll be keeping everything smelling and feeling fresh as a daisy.

Declutter your space

Décor can add a personal touch to your space, but clutter on shelves and on the floor can create more surfaces where dust can collect. We’d recommend doing your best to avoid letting clutter accumulate in order to keep your surfaces clean and easy to dust.

Vacuum regularly

Cleaning with the right tools can make all the difference. Using a vacuum with a HEPA or HEPA-Type filter can limit the amount of dust that escapes back into the air while you’re cleaning. By vacuuming your space 2 or 3 times a week, you can easily remove dust and prevent it from recirculating in your home again.

Consider an air purifier
